#1 BEST Exuma Bahamas Trip Itinerary for Families
Traveling Back to Exuma. . . .Where to Stay and What to Do, it is All Here!
Day 1
Last year, I swore by traveling on New Year’s Eve—it had always been the easiest, quietest day to fly. Airports were usually empty, lines minimal, and it felt like we had discovered a secret travel hack. But this year? Everything changed.
We had a 7:00 AM flight scheduled for December 31, and I was fully expecting another smooth sailing experience. But at 5:00 AM, just as we were getting ready for our second trip to Exuma (find our first trip here), I got a notification: the first leg of our flight was canceled, and we wouldn’t make our connection in Charlotte. Our entire itinerary was pushed to the next day.
Cue the panic.
I immediately called American Airlines, hoping for a miracle. And in under three minutes—yes, three minutes!—the agent had rebooked us on a completely new route through Miami that would actually get us to Exuma, Bahamas 30 minutes earlier than our original plan. She told me to get in the car now, and while she was finalizing the new flights, we were sprinting through the house, tossing bags into the car at lightning speed.
We hit the road and made it to the airport just in time to catch our new flight. Miami was packed—but we made our connection and boarded a small puddle jumper for the final leg: a 45-minute flight straight into paradise.
As we descended into Exuma, the view from the plane was as magical as ever. Even though the skies were a bit cloudy, we still managed to snag some great aerial shots of that turquoise water that always takes our breath away.
It may not have gone as planned, but in the end, we made it!
We breezed through Immigration and Customs—it was fast and hassle-free. From there, we simply walked across the street to Airport Car Rental. We’ve used them on both of our trips and have had nothing but smooth, reliable service each time. Just send them an email for a reservation.
In the Bahamas, driving is on the left-hand side of the road—and trust me, you won’t forget it. The moment you hop into your rental car, there’s a big “STAY LEFT” sticker staring at you. And if that doesn’t do the trick, the occasional car heading straight toward you definitely will. We had a few of those moments!
From the airport, we made the 15-minute drive to Peace & Plenty for lunch, swung by the grocery store, and then caught the boat shuttle to Stocking Island. Our home for the week was Kahari Resort, tucked across Elizabeth Harbour. It’s just a quick 10-minute boat ride from Exuma, but it feels like a world away.
We stayed in a cozy beachside cottage, complete with a loft for the kids and one of our absolute favorite features—an outdoor shower. Here’s a little peek at our slice of paradise.
We took the boat shuttle over to Exuma to ring in the New Year with dinner at Shirley’s, then made a quick stop at Peace & Plenty before heading back across the water to Kahari for the night.
Day 2
Happy New Year! We woke up to the stunning blue waters surrounding Stocking Island and started our morning with coffee on the porch, soaking it all in. After getting ready for a day on the water, we took the shuttle over to Peace & Plenty for breakfast, then made our way across the street to Minn’s Watersports to pick up our boat rental.
We cruised across Elizabeth Harbour by boat to explore Moriah Harbour Cay National Park. Once there, we strolled along the beach and spent time jumping off the side of the boat into the crystal-clear blues—it was absolutely breathtaking.
Around lunchtime, we headed over to Chat N Chill by boat for some freshly grilled fish. Dallas had the chance to meet the owner and hear the story behind how this iconic spot came to life—it was such a cool moment.
We cruised around Elizabeth Harbour for a bit before Dallas dropped the kids and me off at Kahari. We relaxed on the beach for a while, soaking in the peaceful vibes, then headed in to freshen up for dinner. That evening, we dined at The Beacon—Kahari’s on-site restaurant—and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious. The chef is truly talented.
Day 3
We kicked off this gorgeous day with breakfast at The Beacon. Since it’s the only restaurant at Kahari open for breakfast, it was an easy choice—and as always, it was delicious. Afterward, we hopped on the shuttle to Peace and Plenty, then walked across the street for another day of boating. We made our way to Da Sandbar, where we spent the day relaxing in the most breathtaking water! Just look at those colors!
We cruised the boat over to Peace and Plenty Beach Club, pulled right up to the boat dock, and jumped off to enjoy an amazing lunch.
While the food was being cooked on the grill and fresh conch salad was being chopped, the kids played.
We docked the boat at Kahari and relaxed on the beach for a while. Later, we headed to Blu Restaurant on the Water for our 6:30 reservation. If you plan to dine at this amazing spot, definitely make a reservation! As a bonus, the restaurant has a photographer who greets you at the door for a quick photoshoot before you head in.
Day 4
It was time to check out of Kahari, so we started the day with a cup of coffee, watching the sunrise over the beautiful blues.
But, first, we hiked around Stocking Island and fished off the dock.
After enjoying our morning coffee, we checked out of Kahari. While the location is unbeatable, I must admit that the customer service has significantly declined since our last visit. I hope they turn things around because it is a gorgeous spot.
We checked into the Harbour House at Hideaways, and it’s absolutely stunning. The space features two bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and an open kitchen and living room, creating a perfect, spacious retreat.
We had lunch at the Exuma Yacht Club.
We left some stickers behind at the Yacht Club.
We spent the afternoon by the pool, chatting with the new guests checking in and sharing all about this incredible island.
We had dinner at Hideaways.
Day 5
We kicked off the day with breakfast at the lovely Driftwood restaurant, now known as the Sandpiper Café.
We had a 9am reservation with Exuma Water Sports to visit Seven Beaches at Moriah Marine Park. We met at Browns Marina, south of Georgetown, and boarded the boat.
After the boat ride with Exuma Water Sports, we headed to Santana’s on Little Exuma.
Next, we walked next door to Mom’s Bakery for some amazing rum cake. Absolutely delicious!
For dinner, we ordered pizza and invited BBQ and Ice Cream Waffles to come by and treat us to some delicious ice cream!
Day 6
We enjoyed breakfast at Peace and Plenty before heading over to Hooper’s Bay.
We drove into Georgetown, strolled around town, and enjoyed lunch once again at Exuma Yacht Club.
We made a stop at Pedro’s Sweet Haven for some delicious ice cream and later visited Shirley’s in Georgetown one last time. We just love it there!
Day 7
This is always the hardest day—the day we leave this beautiful island. We had breakfast at Hideaways, then packed up at The Harbour House.
We were notified that our flight was delayed by an hour, so we took the opportunity to stop at Tim’s By the Sea for lunch and enjoy some time playing on the beach.
With the most stunning water and sand you’ll find anywhere, a trip to the Exumas is a must. The blues here are beyond breathtaking—so vibrant, you’ll think your eyes are playing tricks on you. The locals call it “Windex blue,” but it’s a mix of every gorgeous shade of blue imaginable, all rolled into one perfect view. If you’re planning a getaway to the Bahamas, Exuma should be at the top of your list. It truly offers some of the most beautiful blues you’ll ever witness!
Next up, two weeks in Key West!
