#1 BEST Exuma Bahamas Trip Itinerary for Families
Traveling Back to Exuma. . . .Where to Stay and What to Do, it is All Here!
Day 1
Last year I said travel on New Year’s Eve, it is the easiest day to travel with no one to be seen at the airports. Well it all changed this year. The airports were packed. I could not believe how busy it was and I thought I had set myself up and the fam for an easy day of travel. Our flight was 7am on December 31. At about 5am, I received a notification that our flight was delayed to the next day because the first leg of our flight had been cancelled and we would never make our connection in Charlotte.
I immediately called American Airlines and within a matter of 3 minutes, the agent had us booked on a different flight through Miami arriving in Exuma, Bahamas 30 minutes prior our original flight. The sweet American Airlines agent told me to get in the car now and start driving to the airport, so we were throwing bags in the car as hard and as fast as we possibly could while she was in the process of booking us new flights. We jumped in the car and off we go to the airport. We arrive in the nick of time and make the flight. Miami was flooded with people. We managed to get to the next gate and hopped onto a small puddle jumper for a 45-minute flight to pure PARADISE.
As we flew into Exuma, looking down from the plane, is bliss. We always get some great aerials while flying in. It was cloudy the day we flew in, but we were still able to get some good shots.
We quickly went through Immigrations and Customs, it takes no time at all, and then walked across the street to Airport Car Rental. We have rented from Airport Car Rental both trips and had no issues at all.
Bahamians drive on the left-hand side of the road and as soon you can get into the car there is a big sticker to STAY LEFT as a solid reminder. Or when a car is coming head on, another reminder you are likely on the wrong side. Happened a few times.
We drove about 15 minutes to Peace and Plenty where we had lunch, stopped by the grocery store and then jumped on the boat shuttle to take us to Stocking Island. We were staying at Kahari Resort located across Elizabeth Harbour, its about a 10-minute boat ride from Exuma. Little beachside cottages with a loft for the kids to sleep and one of our must haves – an outdoor shower.
Here is a little view of our beachside cottage.
We rode the boat shuttle over to Exuma to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Shirley’s and then back to Peace and Plenty before we boated back over to Kahari
Day 2
Happy New Year! We woke up to the beautiful blues around Stocking Island. We started with coffee on the porch and then got ready for a boat day. We shuttled over to Peace and Plenty, ate breakfast there and then walked across the street to Minn’s Watersports for our boat rental.
We drove the boat across Elizabeth Harbour to Moriah Harbour Cay National Park and walked around and jumped off the side of the boat for a while in the beautiful blues.
Later around lunch time, we boated to Chat N Chill for fresh grilled fish. Dallas met the owner and talked about how he started this amazing place.
We boated around Elizabeth Harbour and then Dallas dropped me and the kids off at Kahari where we chilled on the beach for a while and then headed in to shower up for dinner. We ate at The Beacon, the Kahari house restaurant and it was delish. The chef if amazing.
Day 3
Started this beautiful day at The Beacon for breakfast. With it being the only restaurant on Kahari open for breakfast, it was just easier to eat here. And it is always delicious. We took the shuttle to Peace and Plenty and walked across the street for a second day of boating.
We took the boat over to Da Sandbar to chill out for the day. And look at this water!
We drove the boat over to Peace and Plenty Beach Club and pulled up to the shore and jumped off for a amazing lunch.
While the food was being cooked on the grill and fresh conch salad was being chopped, the kids played.
We pulled the boat up to Kahari and hung out on the beach for a while. Then we drove to Blu Restaurant on the Water for a reservation at 6:30. Definitely make a reservation if you decide to eat dinner at this fabulous restaurant. The restaurant has a photographer that meets you at the front door for a quick photoshoot.
Day 4
It was time to check out of Kahari. Started the day with coffee watching the sunrise.
But, first, we hiked around Stocking Island and fished off the dock.
Then we checked out of Kahari. You really cannot beat the location of Kahari but the customer service has plummeted since our last visit.
We checked into the Harbour House at Hideaways. This is a gorgeous place. 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths with a open kitchen and living room.
We had lunch at the Exuma Yacht Club.
We left some stickers behind at the Yacht Club.
We hung out at the pool and talked to all the guests that were checking in that day and talking to them about this amazing island.
We had dinner at Hideaways.
Day 5
We started the day with breakfast at the beautiful Driftwood restaurant, now called Sandpiper Café.
We had a 9am reservation with Exuma Water Sports to Seven Beaches Moriah Marine Park. We met at Browns Marina south of Georgetown and jumped on the boat.
After the boat ride with Exuma, we drove to Santana’s at Little Exuma.
Then we walked next door to Mom’s Bakery for rum cake. Delicious!
For dinner, we ordered pizza and invited BBQ and Ice Cream Waffles came by to make us some ice cream
Day 6
We had breakfast at Peace and Plenty and then headed to Hooper’s Bay.
We drove to Georgetown and walked around town and had lunch again at Exuma Yacht Club.
We stopped by Pedro’s Sweet Haven for ice cream and then later stopped one last time at Shirley’s in Georgetown. We love it there!
Day 7
This is always a hard day. The day we leave this beautiful island.
We had breakfast at Hideaways then packed up at The Harbour House.
We were notified that our flight was delayed by an hour so we stopped at Tim’s By the Sea for lunch and played on the beach.
With the most beautiful water and sand on the planet, you MUST take a trip to the Exumas. It is truly the most beautiful blues in the world. You will think your eyes are playing tricks on you. The Bahamaians refer to the water as “Windex blue” but I see all the most gorgeous blues combined in one beautiful ocean view.
If you are planning a trip to the Bahamas, we cannot recommend Exuma enough. It is the most beautilf blues you will ever see!
