Review of Yeti Hopper 20 Cooler – For those of you that don’t know yet, I am a gear afficionado.  To me, having the right gear can either make a trip or break a trip.

When Kim let me know that for our next adventure, we would be heading to Exuma, Bahamas in July, I knew having a good cooler that we could carry on the plane would be an absolute must.  When you are island hoping and spending the days on a boat, having ice cold beverages is essential.

What I like most about the Yeti Hopper 20 cooler is the fact that you can comfortably wear it on your back to carry it.  This is essential when trekking through the airport with luggage, fishing rods, etc.

When the Yeti Hopper 20 cooler arrived at our house, I immediately took it out of the box and tried it on to see how it felt.  I was pleasantly surprised at how the cooler was form fitting to my back and the straps felt good on my shoulders.

If you have ever done any backpacking, think back to the days when external frame backpacks were used.  They were not exactly comfortable.  When internal frame backpacks were created, it was like a new era was born.  Internal frame backpacks totally changed the comfort level of wearing a forty-pound backpack all day.

Clearly the Yeti team that designed the Yeti Hopper 20 cooler spent some time on the trail and know the importance of having a form fitting backpack that is comfortable.

We carried the cooler on the plane, and it was the perfect carry on because we were able to pack stuff in it and utilize it like a bag while traveling.

When we arrived on the first day, I headed to the grocery store in Georgetown, Exuma to stock up on some food, water, and cold beverages (in the Bahamas Kalik is the beer of choice).  I grabbed a bag of ice and threw it in the Yeti to put in the freezer in our hotel so that we would have it the next day.

Well, I got back to the hotel and totally forgot to put the bag of ice in the freezer.  We woke up the next morning and realized it was still in the Yeti Hopper 20 cooler and opened it up and to our surprise, the ice was still frozen!

When we were on our Exuma, Bahamas family trip  it was extremely HOT because it was July.  The Yeti became an extension of my back.  It was as if it was not even there…until I needed a cold Kalik, which was quite often (hey don’t judge…I’m on vacation).

When we were in Exuma, we stayed at Kahari Resort, which is located on Stocking Island.  (To read about our entire Exuma trip, click here).  The island has several hiking trails so one day we ventured over to the backside of the island to check it out.  The Yeti Hopper 20 cooler wore just like an internal frame backpack and was beyond comfortable to carry.

When we got to the backside of the island, it was gorgeous and all of us enjoyed cold beverages out of the Yeti hopper 20 cooler.  It was no doubt a lifesaver because it was hot!

After lounging on the beach and swimming (yes, I had a few more cold beverages from the Yeti) we headed back to the resort.  At this point, the kids were handing me snorkeling gear, towels, and everything else you could think of for me to carry. Once again, the Yeti came through.  I packed some small carabiners with me and used those to attach items to the Yeti cooler so that I did not have to carry them.  Another genius design by the Yeti team!

The Yeti Hopper 20 Cooler will forever be a part of my gear stash and I look forward to breaking it out on the next trip!

Until Next Time,

Dallas
